AC Milan forward Gonçalo Ramos shared rare insight into his personal life, childhood football roots, and deep-seated passions outside the sport during a wide-ranging club interview. Speaking in September, the Portuguese striker detailed his admiration for basketball, his affinity for the Philadelphia 76ers, and his status as a dedicated Formula 1 fan supporting Ferrari and driver Lewis Hamilton.
Global Support and the Jakarta Welcome
Ramos opened up about the warmth he has experienced from the club’s global fan base since his arrival in Italy. He recalled his initial introduction to Milan supporters during a trip to Jakarta, Indonesia, where a massive contingent turned out to welcome the squad.
“That experience was very special,” Ramos said. “We were thousands of miles away from home, yet we could genuinely feel their support. You realize what a great club Milan is and how huge the fan base is. Our supporters give us strength and backing in every single match, and I really enjoy feeling that passion.”
Early Beginnings
Reflecting on his upbringing, Ramos pointed to an extraordinarily early start in organized football. The forward explained that he has been kicking a football for as long as he can remember, joining his first team, Orléans, at just four years old.
Because his age group lacked a dedicated youth squad at the time, he played alongside older children aged five and six.
Life in Milan and Family Dynamics
The conversation also touched on his domestic life and transition to Italy. Having lived in Paris previously, Ramos noted a clear preference for his current surroundings in Milan. “I prefer city life,” he remarked, noting that living near the city center in both capitals afforded him safe, manageable routines away from the training ground.
He added that Milan feels quieter and shares distinct similarities with Portugal, offering a calmer environment that shields him from excessive chaos and noise. Ramos also expressed deep appreciation for his family, sharing that he and his partner recently married after three years of cohabitation, alongside their young son.
NBA Fandom and Motorsport Loyalties
Away from the football pitch, Ramos revealed an ardent passion for the NBA.
“I love playing basketball, it’s my favorite sport,” he said, identifying the Philadelphia 76ers as his current team of choice. Beyond basketball, he follows motorsport closely, naming Ferrari as his preferred team and Lewis Hamilton as his favorite driver.
Battling Amorim’s Sporting Side
Ramos also reflected on his past encounters with Rúben Amorim, recalling a memorable Portuguese league fixture during his time with Benfica. Benfica played to a 2–2 draw against Amorim’s Sporting CP side, a match in which Ramos scored twice.
He noted that the performance helped establish his reputation with Amorim, who was already well-acquainted with his playing style from his heavy involvement in Benfica’s senior squad.
