Mexican archer Dafne Quintero claimed the silver medal in the women’s compound division at the Archery World Cup Final, held in Saltillo, Coahuila, according to reports from Claro Sports and the EFE news agency. Quintero secured second place after a tight 145-144 loss to the United States archer Alexis Ruiz in the gold-medal match.
The event brought together eight of the top competitors in the discipline under a single-elimination format starting from the quarterfinals at the Plaza de Armas in Saltillo, as detailed by Claro Sports. Quintero advanced through the bracket by narrowly defeating Turkey’s Hazal Burun 144-143 in the opening round.
In the semifinal round, Quintero faced Great Britain’s Ella Gibson, who had previously eliminated Mexico’s Maya Becerra 148-147, according to tournament records. Quintero and Gibson tied 146-146 through regulation, forcing a shoot-off where the Mexican archer landed the decisive shot to advance to the title match.
The final against Alexis Ruiz came down to the final series of arrows. According to EFE reports, Quintero scored two nines in her concluding round, while Ruiz shot a perfect sequence of three tens to finish with 145 points to Quintero’s 144. Following her victory, Ruiz stated, as reported by EFE: “It is very gratifying to take home the gold medal against a rival like Dafne. I am excited because it is one of the great challenges of my career, it has been very important to win this medal.”
Colombia’s Sara López secured the bronze medal in the women’s compound competition. López defeated Ella Gibson 147-146 in the third-place playoff, overcoming earlier difficulties. “It is a bronze with the taste of gold because of the quality of the rival I had in front of me. I had several difficulties with my bow, but getting back up is the best thing that could have happened to me, I leave proud of that,” López told EFE after the event.
In the men’s compound division, Austria’s Nico Wiener captured the gold medal by defeating Denmark’s Mathias Fullerton 148-147, while Mexican competitor Rodrigo González earned the bronze by beating Colombia’s Pablo Gómez 149-147, as reported by EFE. “I am happy to win this medal at home. All of us who are in the national team look for this, there are great athletes in this country. I have no words, this is the first medal of many,” González said, according to EFE.
The competition continued with subsequent rounds featuring the recurve categories.
