Championship strugglers Burnley completed a move for former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy on Sunday, securing the veteran forward on a contract until the end of the season.

Burnley sit at the bottom of the second-tier standings after collecting just two points from their opening five matches of the Championship season. The Clarets are enduring a difficult stretch, extending a winless run to 17 league games with six draws and 11 defeats, following a late loss at home to Bristol City. Records show the club’s last longer winless sequence in league play occurred between December 2006 and March 2007, when they went 18 matches without a victory.
The signing aims to address an attacking void left by Zian Flemming, who transferred to Ipswich Town during the summer transfer window after contributing 11 goals in the Premier League last term. Burnley manager Nicky Hayen emphasized the value of the new arrival’s background. “His experience and leadership will be invaluable to our squad, and we believe he can make a significant impact on our campaign,” Hayen told the club website.

Vardy enters the English second tier carrying a notable record from his 13-year tenure with Leicester City and a stint in Serie A. During his time in Italy, he appeared in 29 matches across all competitions, netting seven goals and adding two assists as Cremonese suffered relegation. Prior to his move abroad, the forward made 342 Premier League appearances, registering 145 goals and 42 assists for a total of 193 goal involvements.
His career highlights include rising from non-League football to capture the Premier League title with Leicester in 2016, alongside lifting the FA Cup in 2021. He also earned 26 senior caps for the England national team.
