The incident unfolded on January 17 following an Eredivisie football match between AFC Ajax and Go Ahead Eagles. As part of a promotional giveaway, the club’s main sponsor distributed complimentary scarves to matchgoers exiting the stadium. Three supporters wearing the giveaway items were walking near the transit hub when two unidentified individuals confronted them.

Escalation Over a Promotional Giveaway Scarf
According to reports from Amsterdam outlets, one of the two suspects approached the group and demanded a scarf, stating, “I want one for my child, that one is mine.” The confrontation quickly escalated into physical violence. One of the suspects knocked a victim to the ground, forcefully stripped the scarf from his neck, and both perpetrators attempted to flee the scene.
Violent Pursuit and Severe Medical Fallout
In an effort to retrieve the stolen item, one of the victim’s companions chased after the suspects. The pursuit resulted in a second violent altercation. During this struggle, the victim was kicked multiple times in the head.

Medical evaluations following the attack revealed that the supporter sustained a severe concussion, multiple broken teeth, and significant facial injuries.
Amsterdam Police Appeal for Public Assistance
Law enforcement officials in Amsterdam have released surveillance images of the two suspects in an effort to identify them. Investigators have stated that they suspect the perpetrators may also be supporters of AFC Ajax. Police are urging anyone who recognizes the individuals on the footage, or who witnessed the altercation near station Bijlmer Arena, to come forward with information to aid the ongoing investigation.
