A Childhood Ambition Realized at Royal Birkdale
For Chacarra, the opportunity to compete at The Open is the fulfillment of a long-held aspiration. The Spaniard noted that his connection to the tournament stems from his upbringing, specifically watching archival footage of the late Seve Ballesteros. Ballesteros famously established his international reputation at Royal Birkdale, finishing as the runner-up in the 1976 championship.

“It is a dream come true,” Chacarra said. “Playing a major is already something very special, but ‘The British’ has a different meaning. Since I was a child, I dreamed of being here because I grew up watching videos of Seve Ballesteros, how he dominated the links, and everything he achieved in this championship.”
The transition to links golf presents a distinct tactical challenge compared to the standard tour conditions Chacarra typically faces. He emphasized that the stylistic differences—ranging from the necessity of playing low shots to account for high winds to managing unpredictable bounces on firm fairways—require a specialized approach. He expressed confidence in his ability to adapt, noting that he often feels comfortable when conditions become demanding and wind becomes a primary factor.
Transitioning from LIV Golf and Building Momentum
Chacarra’s path to his current form has been marked by significant professional shifts. Reflecting on that period, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity the league provided to start his career and secure his family’s financial future, but acknowledged that his long-term goals necessitated a change in direction.
“I needed to return to that path, and I am convinced it was the right decision,” Chacarra stated regarding his shift back to the traditional tour structure. He noted that his primary objective remains earning a full card for the PGA Tour. Currently, he sits in a strong position regarding points, noting that his tally already exceeds the threshold required by the final player to earn status last season.
Professional Aspirations and Future Goals
Looking beyond his debut at Royal Birkdale, Chacarra has set his sights on the highest levels of the sport. He maintains a consistent goal of competing for major championships, including the Masters, the U.S. Open, and the PGA Championship. He cited fellow Spaniard Jon Rahm as a primary influence, specifically highlighting Rahm’s work ethic and preparation, alongside the consistency demonstrated by Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.

The timeline for his future goals includes a potential run at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. While acknowledging that representing Spain would be a career highlight, he emphasized that his immediate focus remains on incremental improvement. “My only concern now is to keep growing,” he said. “If I continue to improve, the opportunities will come on their own.”
Family Support and Personal Milestones
Chacarra’s debut at The Open will be a family affair, with his parents traveling to Royal Birkdale to witness the event. He also spoke about his sister, Carolina, who recently returned to competition following a period of injury and secured her first professional victory. Chacarra expressed a desire to see them compete in a mixed-format event in the future, describing such a scenario as an “absolute dream.”
As he prepares for his opening round, Chacarra remains realistic about the difficulty of winning a major on his first attempt but maintains a focus on the long-term development of his game. His performance at Royal Birkdale will serve as the next major checkpoint in a season defined by his pursuit of PGA Tour status and continued growth within the professional ranks.
