In the last race Nico Hulkenberg put himself in the picture with a good result. The German is currently eagerly looking for a seat for next year. Now the former F1 driver is openly applying for the seat next to Max Verstappen. Hulkenberg claims he can be within three tenths of the Dutchman.
Helmut Marko has recently said that hardly anyone comes close to Verstappen. Hulkenberg was asked if he succeeded. “On my good days, sure. Max is one of, if not, the fastest riders and he’s relentless. I’d like to measure myself against him. We’ll see if that happens.”
The German sees that a seat with the Austrians is the best option. “That’s a fact, but besides that, there are also other seats available.”
The former Force India and Renault driver spoke to Marko in the Eifel. “We have always had a good relationship. Red Bull has a good car and the team goes for the maximum. You need good drivers to do that,” said the 33-year-old.
“I have not raced much in the past period. I have probably left a good impression with the races that I have driven.”
Red Bull Racing has admitted several times that it keeps an eye on the driver market. However, the team hopes to continue with Alexander Albon, but the recent performances may put the British Thai in difficult waters.
