The 2026 Second Xiamen-Taiwan Youth Baseball Invitational officially opened on April 18 at Dazhong Middle School’s baseball field in Xiang’an District, Xiamen, marking the second consecutive year the event has strengthened sports ties between Fujian province, and Taiwan.
The two-day tournament, held April 18-19, featured youth baseball teams from Xiamen and various Taiwanese cities competing across multiple age divisions including U6, U8, U10, U12, U15, and U18 categories. According to official reports, Taiwan sent three representative teams – the New Taipei Youth Baseball Squad, Taichung Little League Team, and Chiayi Little League Team – to compete in the U10, U12, and U15 divisions respectively.
Organized under the guidance of Xiamen Municipal Sports Bureau, Xiamen Municipal Education Bureau, and Xiamen Municipal Committee for the Care of the Next Generation, the event was hosted by Xiang’an District Culture and Tourism Bureau, Xiang’an District Education Bureau, Xiang’an District Dazhong Subdistrict Office, Communist Youth League Xiang’an District Committee, and Xiang’an District Women’s Federation. Xiamen Qiangba Chujī Baseball and Softball Club served as the organizing unit with Kehm Eye Care providing support.
Event organizers emphasized the tournament’s role as more than just athletic competition, describing baseball as “a stage for struggle and more importantly, a bridge for exchange.” During the opening ceremony, teams from Xiamen’s various districts, elementary and middle schools, and local baseball clubs marched alongside their Taiwanese counterparts, displaying what reporters described as “youthful vigor and spirited determination” on the green field.
Over the course of the weekend, participants engaged in fiercely contested games while as well taking time to exchange souvenirs and connect socially. Wu Xixiang, chairman of the Taiwan Sports Culture Education Development Association, expressed satisfaction with the exchange, noting his organization’s long-term commitment to cross-strait youth interaction through sports.
Zhang Yuhang, coach from Xiamen Qiangba Chujī Baseball and Softball Club, highlighted the event’s growth, stating this year’s edition featured “over 20 teams and more than 200 players” with significantly increased participation from both sides compared to the inaugural 2025 tournament. He noted improvements in scheduling standardization, field conditions, and overall competitive level.
The competition concluded with championship, runner-up, and third-place awards distributed across all age groups following two days of round-robin and knockout format play. Officials confirmed plans to continue developing the event as a regular mechanism for youth sports exchange, aiming to institutionalize cross-strait baseball collaboration through sustained engagement.
Local authorities highlighted Xiang’an District’s geographical and cultural advantages in facilitating such exchanges, positioning the baseball field at Dazhong Middle School as a venue where young athletes from both sides of the Taiwan Strait could “compete fiercely, build friendships, and grow together through sport.”
The successful completion of the 2026 edition sets the stage for future iterations of the tournament, with organizers expressing intent to expand participation and deepen the cultural exchange components alongside athletic competition in coming years.
