Lanús goalkeeper Nahuel Losada didn’t mince words after his team’s scoreless draw with Platense on Thursday, openly criticizing the performance of some of his teammates. The outburst came as the Granate prepare for a crucial Copa Libertadores debut next week.
Speaking after the match, Losada expressed his disappointment with the team’s showing. “We left a lot to be desired,” he said, according to TyC Sports. “I’m a little angry and left with a bitter taste, as the center backs were running more than the forwards.”
The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who joined Lanús in 2024 after a stint with Belgrano, didn’t hold back in his assessment of the performance. He emphasized that such a disparity in effort is unacceptable for a team aiming to compete at a high level. “That can’t happen in a team that wants to be a protagonist and press high up the pitch,” Losada stated.
Losada’s criticism extended to the team’s recent changes, suggesting that the replacements made weren’t up to par. “Today we made a change that wasn’t up to the task,” he added. He hopes his candid assessment will serve as a wake-up call for the squad.
The timing of Losada’s comments is particularly noteworthy, as Lanús prepares to embark on their Copa Libertadores campaign. The team is scheduled to face Mirassol of Brazil on Wednesday. Losada acknowledged the significance of the upcoming competition, stating, “We lacked intensity in the final meters. They sat back, which is their specialty. They are a tough team, but we are going to play in one of the most important tournaments on the continent and we have to counter those situations.”
Despite the frustration with the draw against Platense, Losada expressed confidence in Lanús’s ability to perform on the continental stage. He referenced their successful run in the 2025 Copa Sudamericana, stating, “The idea is to go out and win as we did last year in the Sudamericana.” He believes the team possesses the quality to compete, adding, “We believe we are in a condition to do so and we have great players.”
Looking ahead, Losada remains optimistic about the team’s preparation for the Libertadores clash. “We need to improve, we are excited, and we will do a great job,” he concluded. The goalkeeper’s words underscore the pressure and expectation surrounding Lanús as they enter South America’s premier club competition.
Losada’s career has seen him play for several Argentine clubs, including Estudiantes de La Plata, All Boys, and Belgrano. He began his professional journey with a loan spell at Unión de Mar del Plata in 2015 while developing in the Estudiantes system. His move to Lanús represents a significant opportunity for the veteran goalkeeper to showcase his abilities on a larger platform.
The upcoming match against Mirassol will be a key test for Lanús and a chance for Losada to demonstrate his leadership and shot-stopping ability. The team will be looking to build on their domestic form and craft a strong impression in the Libertadores.
