WOW 28: Destiny Osarumwense vs. Oliver Buendía & Fabià Sintes Title Defense in Barcelona MMA Event

Barcelona, Spain – This Saturday, March 28th, all eyes in Spanish mixed martial arts (MMA) will be on Barcelona as WOWFC, the nation’s premier MMA organization, hosts WOW 28 at the Olympic Stadium in Badalona. The main event features a highly anticipated flyweight title defense by Fabià Sintes, as he looks to cement his position at the top of the division. But the card offers much more than just the championship bout, showcasing a rising tide of talent within the Spanish MMA scene.

WOWFC’s emergence, backed by UFC champion Ilia Topuria and football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, has been transformative. The organization has quickly established itself as a prominent force, attracting growing crowds and expanding its broadcast reach. WOW 28 will feature eleven bouts in total, with Sintes’s championship fight taking center stage.

Sintes Eyes Second Defense, and a Path to the UFC

Fabià Sintes (10 wins, 3 losses) enters the fight with a clear goal: to successfully defend his flyweight title against Abdul Karim Badakhshi. But beyond this immediate challenge, Sintes has his sights set on a larger prize – a potential opportunity with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). According to a recent interview with ABC, Sintes believes a victory in Barcelona could open doors to the UFC’s Contender Series, a proving ground for aspiring fighters.

“I’ve done the training camp in Menorca, in Barcelona and in Seville with Enrique Wasabi,” Sintes told ABC. “I feel particularly good, eager to make one last ‘sprint’ and witness how it all turns out. My opponent is a tough guy, he comes out strong upstairs, he has great ‘striking’, he fights orderly, and when he is taken down he gets up quickly. And he has good experience, he has fought good people. I want to have a smart fight, stay calm, go round by round, and not rush.”

The Menorcan fighter understands the significance of being a WOWFC champion in this evolving environment. “Being champion of WOW means being at the top of the food chain in the Spanish MMA scene,” he stated in an interview. “The organization, backed by Ilia Topuria and Cristiano Ronaldo, has positioned itself as a very important entity in the European showcase and has ambitions to continue its expansion around the world.”

Beyond the Main Event: Destiny Osarumwense Ready to Shine

While Sintes’s title defense is the headline attraction, WOW 28 also features compelling action on the undercard. One bout generating significant buzz is the amateur contest between Destiny Osarumwense and Oliver Buendía, both Spanish champions in their own right. This matchup promises a clash of styles and a showcase of emerging talent.

Osarumwense, undefeated in his career, has prepared rigorously for the fight. “This has been the most rigorous preparation to date, I have applied myself thoroughly to improve many sporting aspects, I have a lot of respect for my opponent (Oliver Buendía). I see myself much more than prepared, everything has gone very well during the ‘training camp’ at Gaman Martial Arts. My opponent is good at everything, he has good takedowns, he’s a grappler, he’s quite complete. I like to fight against this type of athlete because I have to adapt and learn to get the victory,” Osarumwense said.

The Basque Country-based fighter is confident in his ability to dictate the pace and location of the fight. “If my opponent wants to go to ‘striking’ I have no problem, if the fight goes to the ground neither, if I have to chase him around the cage, I will. Wherever the fight goes, I will do it the best way, but I will make sure to take the fight where I want it. My prediction is that I will win,” he stated emphatically.

Osarumwense expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to compete on the WOWFC platform, noting the organization’s rapid growth. “The growth that WOW is having is incredible, I am very grateful to the company and to God for being able to fight in such a large promoter. It fills me with pride and at the same time I have a lot of pressure. Every time I go on stage I want to give a good performance, be technical, and enjoy. I want to be up to the task at all times and I am very happy with all the work we are doing,” he added.

Looking Ahead: A Potential Jump to the Professional Ranks

For Osarumwense, a victory at WOW 28 could be a stepping stone towards a professional MMA career. He indicated that a move to four-ounce gloves – the standard for professional bouts – is on the horizon, but he wants to ensure he’s fully prepared for the transition. “It’s something that has to come naturally, because it’s a very important leap, there’s a lot of difference, a certain type of adaptation is needed. I suppose after this fight I will have to sit down with the coaches and analyze my future. I would like to do the Spanish championships again before and see if I can take it back. I think at the conclude of this year I will have to make that decision,” he said.

The growth of WOWFC is providing opportunities for Spanish fighters like Sintes and Osarumwense to showcase their skills on a larger stage. With backing from high-profile figures like Topuria and Ronaldo, the organization is attracting audiences of over 8,000 spectators, a significant increase from the smaller events of the past. This increased visibility and investment are helping to elevate the profile of Spanish MMA and create a pathway for fighters to pursue their dreams on the international stage.

WOWFC 28 promises to be a landmark event for Spanish MMA, with a compelling main event and a supporting card full of rising stars. Fans can expect a night of thrilling action as Fabià Sintes defends his title and Destiny Osarumwense looks to make a statement in his amateur bout.
