Dan Hoa Students Compete in Sports Tournament for 80th Vietnamese Sport Day | Hanoi Moi

Dan Hoa, Vietnam – Over 200 young athletes converged in Dan Hoa commune on Thursday, March 21, 2026, to inaugurate the 2026 Student Sports Tournament. The event, a vibrant display of youthful athleticism, coincided with preparations for the 80th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day, celebrated on March 27th.

The tournament’s opening ceremony drew a large crowd of officials, teachers, students, and local residents, all eager to support the next generation of Vietnamese athletes. Hoang Thi Kim Thanh, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dan Hoa commune, emphasized the importance of the competition as a practical way to commemorate the milestone anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day (first observed March 27, 1946). She highlighted the event’s contribution to the nation’s policy of developing comprehensive education, with a particular focus on physical education and the overall health of young people.

This year’s tournament features competition in three popular sports: badminton, table tennis, and athletics. The event isn’t just about competition; organizers observe it as a crucial opportunity to identify and nurture promising young talent, potentially paving the way for participation in higher-level sporting events. The focus is on fostering a love of sport and building a foundation for future success.

Vice Chairman Kim Thanh also called upon the Organizing Committee and the referee team to ensure fair play and adherence to the rules throughout the tournament. She urged athletes to compete with solidarity, honesty, and sportsmanship, and encouraged spectators to offer enthusiastic and respectful support, creating a lively and exciting atmosphere.

Following the opening ceremony, official matches commenced at various locations within the commune. Badminton matches were held in the former hall of the communal people’s committee, while table tennis and athletics competitions took place at the Nguyen Du middle school. The tournament provides a valuable platform for students to test their skills and experience the thrill of competition.

The atmosphere was particularly exciting for first-time competitors like Nguyen Tien Tung, a seventh-grade student from Lien Chau middle school. “This is the first time I’ve participated in a tournament, so I’m quite nervous,” Tung shared. “I usually play badminton with friends, but the atmosphere at an official competition is completely different.” He added that events like these offer valuable experience, improve health, and strengthen competitive spirit.

The Dan Hoa Commune Student Sports Tournament for the 2025-2026 school year is designed to promote physical education and sport within schools and the wider community. It’s a concerted effort to cultivate a generation of young people who are well-rounded, both physically and mentally. The tournament underscores the Vietnamese government’s commitment to investing in youth development through sport.

The event serves as a reminder of the power of sport to unite communities and inspire young people to achieve their full potential. The success of this year’s tournament is expected to encourage even greater participation in future events, further strengthening the foundation of youth sport in Dan Hoa.
