Navelim, Goa – Goa’s veteran badminton players delivered a dominant performance at the Yonex-Sunrise 48th Indian Masters (Veteran) National Badminton Championships, held at Navelim. The championships, powered by the Raisoni Foundation, saw Dr. Satish Dhondu Kudchadkar and the duo of Tanaji Sawant & Roseline Bunyan claim gold medals, highlighting a successful showing for the state.
Dr. Kudchadkar secured the Men’s Singles 80 title with a decisive victory over Suresh D. Hegde of Karnataka (KTK), winning 21-15, 21-15. The win underscored Kudchadkar’s continued prowess in the sport, demonstrating skill and stamina at the highest level of veteran competition. Sawant and Bunyan showcased brilliant teamwork to win the Mixed Doubles 70 crown. Their final match against Naidu S.K.B. Even as Kudchadkar celebrated a gold, he also added a silver medal to his collection in the Men’s Doubles 80, partnering with Dharam Pal Khatana. The pair faced a strong challenge from Radhey Shyam Goyal (UTR) and Damodar Thombre (MAH), ultimately falling short with a score of 11-21, 17-21. The championships also saw notable performances from other players. Manjusha Sahasrabuddhe of Maharashtra (MAH) dominated the Women’s 60 category, winning both the singles and doubles titles. She defeated Saroj Sawant 21-13, 21-12 in the Women’s Singles 60 final and, partnering with Sawant, overcame Sujata Mehta and Sybil Miranda 21-13, 21-13 in the Women’s Doubles 60 final.
