Lingen Sportehrentag 2026: Ehrung für 54 Sportler & Badminton-Abteilung ausgezeichnet

Lingen, Germany – The city of Lingen (Ems) recently honored its athletic standouts at the 2026 Sports Honor Day, recognizing the dedication and success of 48 individual athletes and six teams. The event, held on March 19, 2026, celebrated achievements at both the state and national levels, showcasing the breadth of sporting talent within the community.

Oberbürgermeister Dieter Krone, along with Hermann-Otto Wiegmann and Thomas Wilbers, chairmen of the Sports Committee, presented the honors. The athletes represented a diverse range of disciplines, from traditional sports like track and field, sailing, judo, and rowing, to shooting, archery, golf, wrestling, chess, American football, darts, and soccer. The collective accomplishments included 30 state championships, numerous podium finishes at state and regional championships, and seven medals at German national championships. Many athletes were also recognized for their selection to state and national teams.

The evening wasn’t solely focused on individual accolades. A performance by the wrestling department of Masao-Grappling e.V. Provided a dynamic display of skill and enthusiasm, highlighting the passion inherent in competitive sports. The event also served as a platform to acknowledge the vital role of volunteers – coaches, trainers, team managers, and supporters – whose contributions are essential to the success of local sports clubs.

This year’s Sports Honor Award was presented to the badminton department of SuS Darme e.V. Oberbürgermeister Krone praised the department’s long-standing commitment to club work and youth development. He specifically highlighted their annual charity badminton tournament benefiting the SOS Children’s Villages, which has raised over €32,000 for the cause over more than 20 years. This dedication to both athletic excellence and community service underscored the values celebrated at the event.

“The Sports Honor Day shows year after year how lively and diverse the sporting landscape is in our city,” stated Oberbürgermeister Krone. “Our athletes contribute to the reputation of Lingen far beyond the city limits. At the same time, clubs like the badminton department of SuS Darme impressively demonstrate how sport connects people and has a wide impact on society.” He extended his gratitude to all athletes, coaches, and volunteers for their dedication.

The event, moderated by Andi Müller, wasn’t just about recognizing past achievements; it was a celebration of the joy of movement and the sense of community that sports foster. It’s a reminder that beyond the medals and records, the core of sports lies in participation, camaraderie, and the pursuit of personal bests.
