A run of 26-13 helped the Mallorcans turn the score around and take the victory
The Melilla Basketball Club seemed to show a better version than in the previous days, with several new faces in its ranks, but even so it could not end its losing streak during its visit to the Son Moix Sports Center, where it lost against Fibwi Mallorca Bàsquet Palma by 84-78. Rafa Sanz’s men had started the game poorly by conceding a 7-0 lead, although they responded with another 0-7 to tie the game at 7-all. From that moment on, there was an exchange of baskets, although the Melilla team, with Iván Cruz in a state of grace, managed to take a lead of five points (18-23). Lucas Capalbo scored a triple to close the first quarter with a tight 21-23. The second round started with the same inertia with which the previous one had concluded, that is, with the visitors taking the initiative on the scoreboard. Thus, they had a maximum advantage of eight points (26-34), after Javier Ezquerra scored, forcing the local coach to request a timeout. This break seemed to bear fruit for the Mallorcans, who, with a run of 10-2, left everything balanced (36-36). At 1’33” until the intermission, and with 42-39 on the scoreboard, it was the Melilla Baloncesto coach who called for a timeout, which could not have been more beneficial for his team, since they signed a 0-8 and went to the locker room five up (42-47).
After the break, the Melilla team continued to dominate the rebound and also in the light, with a difference that reached eight points in the final stretch of a third act (53-61) that would conclude with a hopeful result of 58-65. However, in the last period Rafa Sanz’s men would end up taking a knee. And, with 60-67 on the scoreboard, they received a 9-0 that allowed Fibwi Mallorca to take the lead (69-67), although debutant Nathan Hoover responded with a triple (69-70). Later, Pablo Córdoba also hit the mark from the 6.75 line and kept his team in the fight for victory (71-73). The game had already been balanced and with a tie at 78 we entered the decisive three minutes. Unfortunately, the Melilla Baloncesto players got stuck in attack while the Balearic Islands scored 6-0 to make it 84-78 and take a hard-fought victory.
