Korea Sports Awards: Winners & Economic Impact – The Economic Post

[이코노믹포스트=이석균 부장] The Korea Sports Council (Chairman Yoo Seung-min) announced that it has selected the winners of the 72nd Korean Sports Council Sports Award, which is awarded to athletes who have made outstanding contributions to the sports world in Korea and greatly contributed to the development and promotion of sports in 2025.

After deliberation by the Sports Fair Committee and resolution by the 12th board of directors on February 2, the Korea Sports Council selected 93 people and 5 organizations as winners in a total of 8 categories: competition, guidance, referees, daily sports, school sports, merit, research, and sports value.

The Honorable Sports Award went to badminton player Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life Insurance), who achieved excellent results by winning the men’s doubles title at the 2025 Paris World Badminton Championships and winning 11 gold medals in a single season of the World Tour. The winner will be awarded a commendation plaque and a special award.

The top prizes in each category were cyclist Tae-ho Choi (Gangwon Provincial Cycling Federation) in the competition category, Hyo-jin Ban (Daegu Sports High School) in shooting, Se-won Lee (Goyang City Hall) in weightlifting, coach Seong-sook Jeong (Yongin University) in judo, Eun-hee Kim (Korea Judo Association) standing referee in judo, Doo-yeon Cha, a player at the Busan Metropolitan City Roller Sports Federation in the sports category, Jong-hwan Oh, teacher at Oncheon Elementary School in the school sports category, Lee Chung-hwan, Vice President of the Korea Sepak Takraw Association, Vice President Kim Gwang-tae of the Daejeon Modern Pentathlon Federation in the Merit Category, Kim Seok-gyu, Associate Professor of Sports Science at Dongguk University in the Research Category, and Park Kang-gyu, President of the Seoul Curling Federation in the Sports Value Category, were selected, and commendation plaques and prizes were awarded respectively. In addition, commendation plaques and prizes will be awarded to the winners of the Excellence Award and Encouragement Award in each category (21 people and 3 organizations for the Excellence Award, 60 people and 2 organizations for the Encouragement Award).

Since establishing the Korea Sports Council Sports Award in 1955, the Korea Sports Council has been selecting and awarding outstanding achievements every year, such as demonstrating outstanding skills in various sports activities or contributing to the development of sports in Korea through creative and dedicated efforts.

Meanwhile, the 72nd Korean Sports Council Athletic Awards Ceremony will be held at the Taereung Athletes’ Village Champion House on March 13 at 2 p.m. EP
