During the post-match press conference, Alvaro Arbeloa emphasized the importance of mentality and consistency within his squad. The coach was unequivocal about the standards he expects from his team. “I’m not Gandalf the White! What I expected from my players is exactly what I saw: determination, attitude, mentality… You have to understand that to win every match, quality alone is not enough. We need the kind of effort we saw today (Sunday) and that hunger to win. This must be constant and we will work on that consistency, because we need it.” he told the media after the Bernabeu triumph.
The Spanish manager then added another comment regarding his team’s status: “We need consistency in performance, in mentality, in ambition, in attitude. We have to be extremely consistent because this is Real Madrid, and to beat Rayo Vallecano we have to do more than any other team in La Liga—just like when we go to Valencia. Valencia will surely play their game of the season at home, and to beat them, we’ll need to put in a fantastic performance.”
