Open de Quimper (challenger ATP 125)
“I’m happy with the path I’m on. » What Luca Van Assche (N.165) had said Thursday after his victory in the second round of the Quimper Open against the Slovak Alex Molcan (N.206), he could have said again on Friday after another success in two sets in the quarter-final against his compatriot Titouan Droguet (N.155).
“It was a successful match from start to finish. I countered his weapons well by using mine,” he commented, explaining that he played three good matches in Quimper.
Already author of a good Australian tour, with two victories in qualifying for the Australian Open in Melbourne, the former world No.63, in October 2023 at only 19 years old, therefore has the feeling of taking the right path to re-enter the top 100, even if he is well aware that this path is steep.
More mentally mature
His long descent in the ranking (N.238 in October 2025) made him understand many things. “When I came up, I was very young. It was a bit new. I was excited about everything that was happening. I encountered difficulties that made me mature mentally. I now know what I want to do, where I want to be. What’s certain is that we don’t come back like that in two weeks. You have to win a lot of matches, especially as a challenger. The level is still very high, especially on an ATP 125 like in Quimper. You have to know how to take your time. I’m building my game well. If I can have this level of play throughout the year, it should bear fruit. »
