The motivation is linked to age and contractual perspective: Giannis, at 31 years old, would be destined to ask for a heavy extension, while Barnes (24) would guarantee a longer horizon “under control” and therefore more sustainable from a roster-building perspective.
The reasoning does not call into question Giannis’s level in the short term, but opens a doubt on the “four-year value” performance: who will really be the best over that window, considering health, wear and cost? It is there that the executive says he is not sure that the advantage automatically remains with the superstar.
