Aston Villa have announced the loan signing of midfielder Douglas Luiz. The Brazilian is leaving Nottingham Forest early. The 27-year-old from Juventus was supposed to stay in the East Midlands until the end of the season, but instead he is going back to Birmingham. From there, the 18-time national player moved to Turin a year and a half ago for more than 50 million euros. For half the sum he could become an integral part of the Villans again in the summer.

Douglas Luiz only played in 14 games for Forest, partly because he was again plagued by thigh problems that kept him out of action for several weeks. Aston Villa now hopes to be able to continue the extremely successful time of the long-standing top performer. From 2019 to 2024, Douglas Luiz appeared 204 times for the Lions and collected 46 goal contributions (22 goals, 24 assists). He remained goalless for Nottingham and in 27 previous appearances for Juventus.

The contract in Italy is valid for three more seasons after the current season. Whether Douglas Luiz instead remains a Villa player beyond the season is up to the English themselves.

Juventus announces financial details of Douglas Luiz

Juventus confirmed the financial terms of the loan deal, which also includes a purchase option, in a statement. Initially, 2 million euros are due for the six-month loan. Douglas Luiz could be bought by the Premier League club for 25 million euros in the summer. The player’s market value has also fallen to this amount since he left for Italy. At Aston Villa, Douglas Luiz was once valued at 70 million euros.

Thanks to bonus agreements between Juve and Villa, the transfer fee could increase by a further up to 3.5 million euros after a purchase. If the English activate the option, Douglas Luiz would become the 16th Brazilian footballer to break the 100 million mark in total transfer proceeds in the summer.
