MELBOURNE – Ukrainian tennis player Jelina Svitolina advanced to the semi-finals of the Australian Open. In Tuesday’s quarterfinal match, she easily defeated American Coco Gauff 6:1 and 6:2.

Svitolina advanced to the elite singles quartet in Melbourne for the first time in her career. Against Gauff in the Rod Laver Arena, she dominated from the start, served well and had the upper hand even in longer exchanges. It will be the fourth Grand Slam semifinal for the Ukrainian. In 2019 and 2023, she was among the top four at Wimbledon and in 2019 at the US Open.

“I am very satisfied with my performances at the beginning of the season. I won the tournament in Auckland, New Zealand, and now I am in the semi-finals of the Australian Open. My dream came true to return to the elite world top ten after a maternity break. It means a lot to me, but I have a huge motivation to go even further in this tournament.” emphasized Svitolina in the post-match interview.

In the semi-finals, she will play against the world number one Arya Sabalenko.
