Resting on Sunday, the PSG players returned to training this Monday morning in Poissy. Back at the top of Ligue 1 after their victory at Auxerre (1-0), Luis Enrique’s men are now fully focused on their next meeting: the reception of Newcastle, Wednesday evening (9 p.m.), for the 8th and final day of the Champions League.
Sixth in the standings, the European champions, who are aiming for direct qualification for the round of 16 of the competition, should find their strength for this decisive meeting. Absent during PSG’s last three matches due to muscle discomfort, João Neves trained again with the rest of the team this Monday.
Dro Fernandez not yet qualified
The signals are rather positive and the Portuguese midfielder has a good chance of appearing in the group which will face the Magpies on Wednesday. Achraf Hakimi, absent on Friday in Auxerre following a minor physical problem brought back from the CAN, also set foot on the lawns of the PSG Campus. The Moroccan right-back will carry out a final test Tuesday morning to decide on his presence. If he feels good feelings during this session, Hakimi should be summoned by his coach, in the same way as Nuno Mendes, left to rest on Friday but indeed present in Poissy.
There is a little more uncertainty, however, about Fabian Ruiz, injured in the left knee during the defeat suffered at Sporting Portugal last week. Luis Enrique’s staff will not take the slightest risk with the Spanish midfielder. Note that Dro Fernandez, who has just arrived from FC Barcelona but whose transfer has not yet been formalized by PSG, is not qualified for this meeting.
