Steelers & Aaron Rodgers: RDS Reunion?

The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly close to announcing the hiring of Mike McCarthy as the team’s new head coach according to Adam Schefter d’ESPN.

McCarthy has been free since the end of an up-and-down five-year stint with the Dallas Cowboys that ended in 2024, when the team did not renew his contract in favor of Brian Schottenheimer.

Previously, the 62-year-old coach was at the helm of the Green Bay Packers for 13 seasons between 2006 and 2018, winning the Super Bowl in 2010 with a certain Aaron Rodgers, now quarterback of the Steelers, at quarterback, even if his future with the team remains uncertain.

He would replace Mike Tomlin who left his position by mutual agreement at the end of this season. Tomlin has never finished a season with a losing record in 19 years with Pittsburgh, winning two Super Bowls in the process, in 2006 and 2009.

In 18 seasons as an NFL head coach, McCarthy led his team to the playoffs 12 times, including eight times as division champions. His playoff record is 11 wins against 11 losses.

Since 1969, the Steelers have had only Tomlin, Chuck Noll and Bill Cowher as head coaches.
