The Orlando Magic basketball players suffered their third defeat in a row in the NBA without the injured Franz Wagner. The German world and European champion team lost 105:119 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Meanwhile, superstar Luka Doncic led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 116-110 comeback win over his former team, the Dallas Mavericks.
Orlando initially didn’t notice the absence of its German star, which was also due to the return of Jalen Suggs, whom the Magic welcomed back to the floor after eight games. The guard scored almost all of his points before the break, which went into the game with a narrow deficit (48:55). In the second half, Orlando lacked strength and the guests pulled away.
The game’s best scorer was Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell, who put up 36 points and nine assists. In addition to Paolo Banchero (27 points), Moritz Wagner also kept up well for the hosts. Franz’s older brother had a strong 13 points and six rebounds in less than 13 minutes. Tristan da Silva, the third German national player, remained without a point. Orlando remains in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 23 wins and 21 defeats, the Cavaliers are fifth.

In Dallas, long-time fan favorite Doncic returned to his old home for the second time – and for the second time the Slovenian triumphed against his former team. Seven minutes before the end, the star team from Los Angeles was still 15 points behind, but thanks to 33 points, eight rebounds and eleven assists from Doncic, the Lakers managed the comeback. LA is fifth in the West and is on course for the playoffs, the Mavericks are in danger of missing out in eleventh place.

While the Mavericks hung their heads, the Chicago Bulls celebrated twice. After the 114:111 over the Boston Celtics in the United Center at home, in which Kevin Huerter sank a nerve-racking three-pointer seconds before the end, the Bulls pulled the number 1 jersey under the roof of the hall. The franchise honored Derrick Rose, who was named the youngest MVP in NBA history in 2011 at the age of 22. In September 2024 he ended his career due to injury.
