Reigning French champion, Alex Lanier will defend its crown at home in 2026. At the Palais des sports Caen-la-Mer, the 8th player in the world – originally from Dives-sur-Mer – will have his work cut out for him. The draw French championships augurs some serious shocks in the semi-final, or even the final if the Norman reaches this stage.
He will start in the quarter-finals, like the three other seeded players (Christo Popov, Toma Junior Popov, Arnaud Merklé) – who have also already won individual titles in recent years – and will be opposed to one of the four players from a sixteen-element qualification table, according to the brand new formula of the competition.
Note that other Normans will try to enter the final table, through the qualifications. In the men’s doubles, Argentanian Lucas Renoir (Le Volant Airois) will also start in the quarter-finals, with the hope of getting on the podium. The Moroccan Driss Bourroum (Conquérants Badminton Club de Caen) and Tom Germain (Club Alençonnais de Badminton) are entered in singles. In mixed doubles, Milo Dubois and Clément Gaudreau, both residents of the Caen club playing in the elite of their discipline, will also try to qualify. Milo Dubois who also appears in the men’s doubles table alongside Thomas Schmitt. Finally, for the ladies, Clémence Gaudreau will be associated with the Ligerian Adèle Fillonneau.
