Melilla Athletes Compete: Spanish Cadet Cup 2024

Three judokas from Melilla will compete this Saturday in the Spanish Cadet Judo Cup, which will be held in El Vendrell (Tarragona), one of the most important events on the national calendar for this category. Aitana Muñoz Moreno, Rafael Rosa Robles and Juan Pablo Gallego Sabio will represent Melilla in this high-level competition, which will bring together the best young talents in Spanish judo.

Aitana Muñoz Moreno will take part in the women’s -52 kilogram category, while Rafael Rosa Robles will compete in the -66 kg weight category and Juan Pablo Gallego Sabio will compete in the -73 kg category, both in the men’s category. The three judokas face this challenge with the aim of continuing to gain experience and points on the national circuit, facing high-level rivals from all over Spain.

The competition will have four official tatami areas and will apply the regulations of the International Judo Federation, with three-minute bouts in the heats and four-minute finals for gold.

The competition system will vary depending on the number of entrants per category, contemplating elimination rounds with double crossed play-offs, leagues or direct confrontations, which guarantees a high competitive level from the first rounds.

The presence of these three athletes in a competition of this magnitude once again highlights the growth of Melilla judo and the work that has been carried out at the base, allowing promising young people to compete face to face on national stages and continue their sporting progression.
