[스포티비뉴스=박대현 기자 / 이충훈 영상 기자] Kim Dong-moon, president of the Korea Badminton Association, looked back on the past ahead of the one-year anniversary of his election.
My first year as president of the association. Chairman Kim said that it was a time when he felt the ‘weight of the decision’ more than ever.

“I spent my time with a heavy sense of how each decision I made would affect the players and the field.”
The biggest achievements of the past year were the restoration of trust in the association and the beginning of structural overhaul.
We attached some significance to the fact that we have taken the first step towards becoming an ‘association that can explain why we made this decision’, from strengthening finances to establishing a communication structure.

“Above all, the most meaningful point is that we have begun a structural overhaul to restore trust in the association, and that we have created the first stage of an ‘association that can explain’ why it made this decision in terms of finances, regulations, and communication structures.”
The tasks that the association is most focused on this year are reorganizing the player-centered system, modernizing the competition system, and strengthening the structure that connects sports and elites.
The recently concluded contract with main sponsor ‘Lepi Lab’ along with the allowance of individual sponsorship is also an extension of these concerns.

“First of all, we always had the idea that the allowance of individual sponsorships should be changed to fit the trend of the times. (At the same time), the financial stability of the association must be maintained. So, the sponsorship contract with Lepi Lab (last July) can be seen as a valuable sponsorship contract signed based on mutual trust and long-term vision amidst these concerns.”
Lastly, Chairman Kim Dong-moon promised that he would exert his best administrative power in the remaining three years so that his term would be remembered as such.

“For elite players, I hope that the ‘athlete-centered association’ and the ‘principled association’ began under President Kim Dong-moon.”
“The core of our badminton is sports enthusiasts and fans. (…) Domestic elite players are currently in their prime and (many people) are very fond of it, so it would be great if we could take this opportunity to leave an evaluation to our club members, saying, ‘A truly new change in the badminton community began under President Kim Dong-moon.’”
An association where players are the center and principles are straight.
The starting point of a new badminton that encompasses not only the elite but also everyday sports and fans.
It is said that Chairman Kim Dong-moon’s first year was a ‘time of clever service’ that marked the beginning.
