‘Shuttlecock Empress’ Ahn Se-young (24, Samsung Life Insurance) has built another golden tower.

Badminton Ranks, which reports major global badminton records, introduced Ahn Se-young, who won the Badminton World Federation (BWF) 2026 India Open held on the 19th, holding a gold medal and his records through social media. He introduced 29 consecutive individual wins (30 consecutive wins including byes), 10 consecutive wins against his opponent in the finals and second-ranked Wang Zhiyi (China), and the longest singles win streak.

The record that attracts the most attention is the consecutive wins. Ahn Se-young won six consecutive competitions based on the BWF World Tour. It includes the Denmark Open held in October last year, the French Open, Australian Open, World Tour Finals, the Malaysia Open, which was the first tournament of the year, and the India Open. He also surpassed his own record (5 consecutive times) in 2025.

Winning six consecutive competitions is a tie for the most consecutive wins by a singles player since the 21st century. According to Badminton Ranks, Ahn Se-young stood shoulder to shoulder with Hsieh Hsingfang (China) in 2004-2005 and Tai Tzu-ying (Taiwan, retired) in 2016-2017.

Tai Tzu-ying, who recently retired, is a player who, along with Ahn Se-young, formed the Big 4 in women’s singles by 2024. From 2015 to 2017, she dominated the BWF women’s singles world. Xie Xingfan is a silver medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Ahn Se-young also surpassed the record of five consecutive competitions held by Lin Dan (China) and Kento Momota (Japan), men’s singles legends.

After playing the Malaysia-India Open in January last year, Ahn Se-young took about a month to prepare and went on a trip to Europe to compete in the Orleans Masters and the All England Open. This year, there is a high possibility that he will participate in the German Open held at the end of February and the All England Open held in the first week of March. Attention is being paid to whether the record for most consecutive tournament wins in the 21st century will continue.
