Mogo/RSU: 5th Place in IIHF Continental Cup Final

In the game for the fifth place, the people of Riga beat Angers “Duc” from France with a score of 4:3 (1:1, 1:1, 2:1).

Rūdolfs Maslovskis scored the winning goal nine minutes before the end of regular time, but before that Elviss Želubovskis, Ernests Krūms and Kaspars Ziemiņš stood out for the Latvian team with scored goals.

In the subgroup “Mogo”/RSU lost 0:4 to the host Nottingham “Panthers” and lost to the Polish team Katowice GKS 2:3 in the shootout series.

In the continuation, in the game for the third place, “Blue Fox” of Herning defeated the ice hockey players of Katowice with 3:2 (0:1, 0:0, 2:1, 0:0, 1:0) in the post-game shootout. Defender Oskars Cibulskis played for the winners, but goalkeeper Jānis Fecers remained in the reserve.

In the fight for first place, Nottingham “Panthers” won 4:2 (1:0, 2:0, 1:2) against Eskemen Torpedo from Kazakhstan.

In the first round, “Mogo”/RSU took the first place with three wins in the same number of matches, but in the second round, they achieved two successes in three fights and took the second place, which also allowed them to secure a place in the finals.

The IIHF Continental Cup is the second largest European ice hockey club tournament, with 14 teams participating. All team competitions start according to ranking.

In the previous season, the Cardiff “Devils” representing Wales won the IIHF Continental Cup, but “Mogo”/RSU did not make it past the second round.
