NEC won against NAC in the Rat Verlegh Stadium last Saturday. The spectacle ended in 3-4 for NEC. Sami Ouaissa talks about his goal, the trust he receives from the staff and about the supporters in the stadium. “That feeling is so good. I love shutting people up.”
Ouaissa scored early in the match, but was also substituted early. “For me this was a slightly lesser match. I scored that goal early, but had to leave at some point. I had pain in my groin. It still needs to be looked at.” He often stood directly opposite NAC’s left back. “Because I was in the right position more often, it was not too bad how annoying it was to face Boy Kemper. I took that into account throughout the match, more than usual, because I know he often goes over the top. But he didn’t offer much offensively.”
“We started this match very strongly, but then you see that we weakened a bit. Then they start shouting even louder in the stadium, then it is difficult to turn that back,” says Ouaissa. “This was our first match after four weeks of rest. It was important to win and we did an excellent job. Today you saw that we don’t care if we don’t play for four weeks. We are very strong conditionally. That is of course also a compliment to the staff.”
Supporters
In the 94th minute, Kodai Sano scored a crucial goal to give NEC three points. “I wasn’t normally happy, it was really bizarre. Behind us, supporters had been being annoying behind our dugout the entire match: they were hitting them or raising their middle fingers. That made me even happier when Kodai (Sano, ed.) scored. I also deliberately cheered at those annoying fans, only then did I go to Kodai to celebrate.” We saw Ouaissa have contact with the public more often. “That feeling is so good. I like to shut people up. In the first half there was an old woman who was shouting all kinds of things at me. I had just scored, so I just laugh and stick my tongue out at her. How childish can you be? I’m just doing my job. What else can I do? Not score?”
“This season will bring a lot,” Ouaissa continues. “I have been able to make so many steps, that is really because of the trainer and my self-confidence. From day one we started talking a lot. They just tell it like it is. I am quite a sensitive player and I need some trust. If I have their trust from the start, then I play better. Even when I played a little less in the first matches, they continued to believe in me. I am doing well with that.”
