Justin Bijlow’s impending transfer to Genoa is causing a stir among Feyenoord supporters. On FR12.nl responses are pouring in en masse and it appears that the ‘low transfer fee’ is particularly painful, even though there is understanding for the context in which the deal was concluded.
An inventory of hundreds of responses shows that approximately 60 percent of supporters think the transfer fee of 200,000 euros (plus ten percent resale) is far too low. Reactions such as ‘2 tons hahahahaha’, ‘amateur amounts’ and ‘did they forget a zero?’ are an example of this. The agreed resale percentage is also seen as a problem: “10 percent is really nothing if he finally stays fit.”
On the other hand, there is a group of approximately 30 percent who call the deal meager, but find it understandable. They mainly point to Bijlow’s expiring contract and the high salary that Feyenoord is now saving.
“It’s not about those €200,000, but about the €2 to €3 million in salary costs that will be lost,” it is said repeatedly. “Something is better than nothing, otherwise he would walk out the door for free.”
A small minority, about 10 percent, even calls it an excellent or good deal. These supporters mainly look at the situation from a business perspective and call Bijlow a cost item that is too expensive. ‘Top deal, finally room on the payroll’ and ‘monster salary gone’ are typical sounds from that corner.
We are also already looking ahead. Fans are discussing a lot about a successor under the bar. Names such as Jari De Busser (Go Ahead Eagles) and Etiënne Vaessen (FC Groningen) are mentioned most often, but Joël Drommel’s name is also mentioned several times.
The 29-year-old Drommel is currently on loan from PSV to Sparta Rotterdam, where he is having a top season on a personal level. Drommel is contracted to PSV until mid-2027.
