Danilo Gallinari among the all-time greats of the Knicks. The New York quintet celebrated the blue basketball player by making him the protagonist of the Homecoming organized by the NBA team from the Big Apple which attracted legends from the past, such as Walt Frazier, John Starks and Larry Johnson. Gallinari, who announced his retirement from competitive activity last December, was invited by the Knicks (the franchise that made him make the big leap to the top American league in 2008) to join the “Alumni” on a weekend full of initiatives reserved for the team’s former players, and an opportunity to once again experience a crowd bath with the fans.
Gallinari went to the New York Stock Exchange to ring the closing bell of the day, underwent an autograph and photo session with fans and was greeted at center court during the match against the Phoenix Suns. Ovation from the public who greeted the Italian very warmly, who has always been well received even when he returned as an ex to the New York parquet. “I played with many teammates who were booed when they returned to play against their former teams – Gallinari said on club TV – but here they gave me an ovation every time. I will always be grateful to the Knicks fans and this will always remain home for me.” On his future he added: “I have three children at home, so I’ve been a dad a lot lately. I don’t know what the future holds for me, but I have plenty of time to make a decision.”
