Anthony Davis could miss up to eight weeks or more for the Mavericks despite not having surgery on his left hand, according to sources.
Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis will not need surgery on his injured left hand after a second opinion with specialist Dr. Steven Shin in Los Angeles on Tuesday, and will be re-evaluated in six weeks, league sources told ESPN.
Davis could miss up to eight weeks or more despite not undergoing surgery, according to sources.
The Mavericks have resumed talks about a possible Davis trade with several interested teams, and these conversations continue as the February 5 trade deadline approaches.
Davis, 32, injured his hand defending Utah’s Lauri Markkanen on a drive late in the Mavs’ road loss to the Jazz on Thursday. In that game, Davis scored 21 points, captured 11 rebounds, distributed 4 assists and made 1 block in 35 minutes of play.
Various injuries have limited Davis to just 29 regular-season games in a Mavericks jersey since he arrived in Dallas from Los Angeles as the centerpiece of the deal that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers in a controversial trade in early February 2025.
The Mavs, who are prioritizing the long-term future and building the team around Rookie of the Year candidate Cooper Flagg, are 10-10 with Davis in the lineup and 5-15 without him.
In 20 games this season, Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks.
