KAA Gent wants to strengthen itself during this mercato. The club is currently finalizing the loan arrival of an ex-club player.
Just before the winter break, KAA Gent again took full advantage against Westerlo. The Buffaloes had not won a league match since their 4-0 demonstration against Standard at the end of October.
Ghent is still outside the top six, but has come within one point of Standard and Antwerp. Genk, with only one point less, also remains in the lead, which promises to be a very exciting battle until the end of the season. That is why the club management is looking for several reinforcements.
The first might be an old acquaintance: Hyun-seok Hong. The South Korean offensive midfielder came over from Austrian Red Bull Salzburg in August 2022 and immediately made an impression in the Pro League. In 104 games for Ghent he scored 18 goals and 20 assists.

That earned him a transfer of four million euros to Mainz a year and a half ago. However, Hong was never really able to establish himself as a regular starter in the Bundesliga. Last summer he was therefore loaned to FC Nantes.
Things are difficult there too. After a period as titular, he left the team after a muscle injury and he has not played a minute in Ligue 1 since October 4.
According to L’Équipe, his loan at Nantes would be terminated early. Mainz would like to loan him to KAA Gent until the end of the season. If Hong returns to his best level with the Buffaloes, he can become a particularly valuable reinforcement for the second half of the season.
