Under Nicky Hayen, Club Brugge still had a rotation system between Nordin Jackers and Simon Mignolet, but coach Ivan Leko has now clarified this. Mignolet is now the undisputed number one of the team.
This week Dani Van den Heuvel gets another chance between the posts, but both Jackers and Mignolet will return in the foreseeable future. It promises to be an important period for the goalkeepers.
Leko emphasizes the importance of a top goalkeeper for a club. “The role of the goalkeeper is crucial,” he says HLN. “Look at how Club Brugge has changed after the arrival of Mignolet. Look at Real Madrid and Thibaut Courtois: a player like that makes the difference every time they win something.”
Simon Mignolet is Club Brugge’s number 1
For Leko the choice is clear. “Simon Mignolet is always my number one. We hope he will be fully fit as soon as possible,” says the coach. His words give Mignolet confidence and stability in defense.
Jackers remains an important option on the bench, while Van den Heuvel gains experience during his opportunities. Club Brugge’s goalkeeper policy is so tightly organised. Since the beginning of the competition, there have been many questions about that rotation system.

With Mignolet as a permanent fixture, Club Brugge hopes to continue the success of recent years, with the certainty that the defense is in good hands. The rotation system is a thing of the past for the time being, so that the focus is entirely on performance.
