The end of Stefan Kuntz as sports director of Hamburger SV came as a surprise at the turn of the year. According to the press release at the time, family reasons were said to have been decisive (all information >>>).
In the following days, however, allegations by HSV employees against the 63-year-old were made public by “Bild”. The tabloid reported that allegations of sexual harassment were the actual reason for the separation.
Kuntz’s statements
Kuntz himself commented on this in an Instagram post on Sunday evening: “First of all, I would like to say that the allegations hit me hard. One thing is clear: I firmly reject these allegations.”
It was also said that he had called in his lawyers “for the benefit of my family and everyone close to me.” According to Kuntz, they should take action “against these false accusations and previous convictions”.
HSV reacts and contradicts
In the wake of these statements, his former club has now come forward with a statement and states: “In December 2025, allegations of serious misconduct by Stefan Kuntz were brought to the supervisory board of HSV Fußball Management AG. In accordance with its responsibility, the supervisory board, immediately after becoming aware of the allegations, initiated the investigation into the incidents with the support of specialized external lawyers. After careful examination and the realization that the allegations are credible, the supervisory board immediately decided to strive for a separation from the board member as quickly as possible.”
It also goes on to say: “On this basis and in particular with knowledge of the allegations made against him, Stefan Kuntz agreed to the separation on December 31, 2025. He was represented by a lawyer. Despite multiple offers, Mr. Kuntz explicitly did not take advantage of the opportunity to comment to the supervisory board. Against the background presented, the allegations of a ‘slander campaign’ against Stefan Kuntz are clearly inaccurate and misleading.”
