When asked if Walker was lucky that Dorgu didn’t charge harder, Fletcher said: “So like Kyle Walker did when Licha didn’t touch him? Yes. That’s the territory we’re getting into, but Patrick is an honest man, he would never do that.”
“It doesn’t look good from Kyle Walker’s perspective, but I like Kyle and I know him as a person, so I hope his intention was to get the ball. Patrick thinks the intention at that point was Kyle trying to get the ball and make contact with him, so that’s his understanding of the incident at the time.”
“For me personally, I think VAR should have checked it. We had a goal disallowed, which was completely unreasonable, so I think they should have checked it too. And, as you said, if they didn’t do it, you would just encourage players to make big plays and overdo it, which is not what we want in the game.”
“I don’t want that from my players. I will try not to let my players do that. But those two situations probably really affected the game that night, so it shows how influential VAR can be.”
