Wembanyama & Spurs: A Promising Future

Three days after their success against the Lakers, the San Antonio Spurs beat the most successful team in the League, Boston, by a score of 95-100. Cleveland, the Clippers and Chicago also won.

San Antonio strikes again! Second in the Western Conference, the Spurs traveled to third in the East, Boston, on Saturday. And the Texans, winners of the Lakers, the second most successful team in the League, three days ago, won against the Celtics, the team with the most titles (18), by a score of 95-100. The C’ however led most often in this meeting, but never by more than nine points.

At 5’23 from the end, Derrick White (29pts) and his teammates still led 89-84, but Keldon Johnson (18pts) brought the Spurs to one point (89-88), before putting them in front (91-93) on a 3-point shot. Jaylen Brown (27pts) equalized (93-93), but Victor Wembanyama put his team back in front (93-95) before widening the gap (95-99). There were only 19 seconds left to play and the Spurs won. Coming off the bench, the French pivot finished with 21 points and 6 rebounds. This Sunday, Minnesota awaits these decidedly impressive Texans.

Cleveland enjoys

The Wolves (4th in the West), in fact, traveled to Cleveland (6th in the East) a little earlier this Saturday, and the Cavaliers ended their series of four victories, winning 146-134. If Minnesota led until the start of the third quarter, Cleveland then largely dominated the end of the match. For the first time since 1972, five Cavs players finished with 20 or more points (28 for Mitchell, 24 for Mobley, 23 for Tyson, 22 for Garland and 20 for Merrill). Opposite, the 25 points of Anthony Edwards and Naz Reid were not enough for the Wolves.

Hold-up des Clippers

In another East/West match, Detroit, the leader of the Eastern Conference (deprived of Cunningham, Duren and Stewart), fell at home against the Clippers, 11th in the West (92-98). A real hold-up on the part of the Californians, who were trailing by 19 points at the start of the second quarter, and still 92-91 with 2’20 to go, but who ended with a 7-0, including five free throws, while the Pistons increased the turnovers. Kawhi Leonard scored 26 points and John Collins 25. Finally, note, in a bottom-of-the-table match, the largest away victory in the history of the Charlotte Hornets: 95-150 at Utah, with nine players with at least 10 points.
