Wrexham Beat Nottingham Forest: FA Cup Upset

The FA Cup was back on Friday night.

Then Wrexham offered a bang.

In front of the celebrity owner, they knocked out Nottingham Forest.

Scotland’s Dominic Hyam struck with his first goal in a Wrexham shirt as the Welsh side downed Premier League club Nottingham Forest.

Right under the nose of the Welsh club’s celebrity owner Ryan Reynolds.

– The first half was unacceptable. The players know and some individuals really do. I shook some of them to life at half-time and in the last 45 we looked like a Premier League club, says Forest coach Sean Dyche to TNT.

Just two minutes after Hyam’s goal, Forest’s Callum Hudson-Odoi managed to create a nerve to send Forest 3-2 up, and a quarter of an hour later he managed to score his second goal of the game to take the story to extra time.

There was no decisive result, but on penalties it was after all the Championship club who were stronger after keeper Arthur Okonkwo saved Forest’s last penalty – and sent Wrexham through to the fourth round.

– It was a rollercoaster. Their late goal sent the stuffing out of us a bit in the first half of extra time,” said Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson.

Double first times

It wasn’t just Hyam who took the chance to score his first goal in a Wrexham shirt.

25-year-old midfielder Liberato Cacace also took the chance when, in the 37th minute, he scored the game’s first goal.

Convicted

Although it was Wrexham who got the first goal of the match, it was Forest who sent the ball into the net first. Douglas Luiz picked the ball down with his arm, or was it his shoulder (?), before sending the ball into the goal on the half volley.

A nice goal, but clear handball according to the referee and simply not approved.
