The safety and recovery work on the eighteenth-century church of San Francesco, located in Villagrazia di Carininear Palermo. The operation restored structural integrity to a historic building that was in highly vulnerable conditions.
The construction site, started and completed in less than twelve months, was financed with approximately 40 thousand euros by the regional department of cultural heritage. The work primarily involved the roofing of the single rectangular hall, which was unprotected, and the area above the presbytery, which had long been compromised by infiltration. Here the old double-pitched roof, supported by deteriorated wooden elements, was completely removed and replaced.
Alongside the renovation of the roofs, all the complementary works necessary to guarantee the durability of the intervention were carried out, such as the installation of new rainwater disposal systems, including gutters and downspouts, which are fundamental for preventing future structural damage.
