At halftime, the trainers in the various sports often give a speech in order to really motivate the athletes until the last minute. This also applies to the 47th athlete election of the Heidenheimer Zeitung. After the first half, around 2,500 readers have already cast their votes for their favorites in the categories of athlete, female athlete and team. For the first time, the election, which has a long tradition, is looking for the best trainer.
After two weeks, favorites have already emerged in the four categories, but nothing has been decided yet, after all, it’s only half time. And the race for the top three places remains tight. So support the athlete, the team and the trainer of your choice. You can vote here until January 22nd.
Keep voting: The leaders already have a lead at halftime
Among the athletes, the somewhat surprisingly leading Neil Albrecht defended his first place. The young chess player from SK Sontheim has collected 24 percent of the votes in the two weeks of voting so far. Another German champion follows with a certain gap: baseballer William Germaine (Heidenheimer Heideköpfe) is in second place with 20 percent. The current winners’ podium is completed by SHB handball player Tim Kraft, who is in third place with 17 percent. Also available are Max Feinauer (TSG Giengen, running), Matthew Bülau (HSB, fencing), Sotirios Chochlionis (wrestling, TSV Herbrechtingen), Ricardo Karle Costa (riding, RSG Dettinger Alb) and Franz Lotspeich (shooting, Söhnstetten).
His club colleague Marie Brachert remains at the top among athletes. The SG Herbrechtingen/Bolheim backcourt shooter received 22 percent of the votes so far. The field of pursuit is tight: runner Ciara Elsholtz (16 percent/TSG Giengen) is in second place ahead of skier Katharina Haas (14 percent/SC Gerstetten) and trail runner Angela Wegene (13 percent/TSG Schnaitheim). The other candidates are: Helga Reiser (swimming, TSG Giengen), Diana Lust (sports acrobatics, SV Mergelstetten), Milena Aufheimer (football, FC Härtsfeld) and Finia Falch (sports acrobatics, SV Mergelstetten).
For the first time, the trainer of the year will be chosen
The biggest surprise is still with the teams: the gymnasts from FV Sontheim/Brenz (23 percent) continue to lead ahead of the baseball players from Heidenheimer Heideköpfe (19 percent) and the gymnasts from WKG Heidenheim/Nattheim (14 percent). The pursuers are: the SHB handball players, the FCH football players, the Highland Highlights cheerleaders, the TSV Herbrechtingen wrestlers and the SHB handball players.
Among the trainers, two “old hands” are in the race for the first title of the new year. Baseball veteran Klaus Eckle (Heideköpfe) is ahead of Bernd Biller (25 percent) with 31 percent. Celine Caro (sports acrobatics, SV Mergelstetten) is in wait with 18 percent of the votes. Sascha Baß (running, TSG Giengen) and Sonja Steiger (cheerleading, Highland Highlights) also still have a chance.
