Outfielder Daulton Varsho, infielder Ernie Clement and catcher Tyler Heineman agreed to one-year contracts with the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday, avoiding arbitration.
Varsho’s pact will net him $10.75M. Clement will pocket $4.6 million and Heineman $1.2375 million.
Known for his brilliance on defense, Varsho only played 71 games last season due to shoulder and back thigh injuries. He collected 20 home runs and 55 RBIs.
Clement has taken his place and established himself as a player who can be counted on every day.
He hit .277 in 157 games, with nine home runs and 50 RBIs.
It was in the playoffs that he revealed himself: he set a major baseball record with 30 hits, posting a batting average of .411.
Toronto made it to the World Series, losing in seven games to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
A backup to Alejandro Kirk, Heineman hit .289 in 64 games, with three home runs and 20 RBIs.
Eric Lauer will go to arbitration in Arizona, between January 26 and February 13.
The left-hander excelled with a 9-2 record and 3.18 ERA in 28 games, including 15 starts.
