Some time ago, the Bad Königshofen Badminton Club invited all children, young people and adults to a large ribbon tournament in the triple gym. The organizer of the event, Conny Helmreich, received 39 registrations and so many pairings, some of them across generations, were able to play against each other on a total of eight playing fields. The focus was not on winning, but on enjoying the sport of badminton.
Each round of the game was drawn anew, making sure that the doubles or mixed pairs always consisted of a beginner and an experienced player. The goal was to collect as many points as possible in a given time and thus earn a “ribbon” that was then attached to the badminton racket. At the end, the most successful ribbon collectors received a trophy, and all other participants received a medal and a badminton ball as a small thank you for their sporting commitment. Between the sweaty games there was of course plenty of opportunity to fortify yourself at a pre-Christmas buffet.
