Mahrez leads the Algerian national team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The 34 year old player led his country through the group phase as the top of Group E.

The Algerian national team was challenged by the Democratic Republic of Congo in the round of 16 of the 2025 African Cup of Nations. The match is scheduled for Tuesday (6/1/2026) evening WIB at Moulay Hassan Stadium, Rabat.

A video about Mahrez went viral on social media ahead of the Algeria vs Congo duel. This former Manchester City star was caught on camera playing football with a little girl who was a fan of the Algerian national team.

Mahrez was seen juggling and sharing the ball with the young fan, before hugging him warmly. Quote Al Jazeerathe video was recorded at a hotel in Rabat where the Algerian national team was staying.

The video of Mahrez’s action with young Algerian fans was watched more than 80 thousand times on X. Many fans praised him.

This is not the first time Mahrez has shown humility with fans. Towards the end of 2025, he shared a tweet posted by an Algerian fan who lost a bag containing important documents after the match against Burkina Faso at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

“Please help him,” Mahrez’s account wrote when responding to a tweet from an Algerian national team fan who had lost his bag.
