The relationship between Ruben Amorim and the club management of Manchester United has been seriously disrupted. Various English media report this, including: The Telegraph. The Portuguese manager is said to be at loggerheads with Jason Wilcox, the club’s sporting director.
United are not doing well sportingly. After a very disappointing 1-1 against last-place Wolverhampton Wanderers, they also failed to win away at Leeds United on Sunday: 1-1. It then escalated to Elland Road. Not long after the final whistle, Amorim had a collision with Wilcox.
“Amorim on collision course with Wilcox as the power struggle at Man United begins,” writes The Telegraph. The English newspaper knows that an ‘extraordinary eruption’ has occurred in the catacombs. Amorim is said to have presented the United board with a dilemma: show support or resign.
That would have gone down the wrong way with Wilcox. After the collision, Amorim took a seat in the press room. A somewhat remarkable press conference followed. When his future at the club was discussed, Amorim struck a serious tone. “I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach of Manchester United. And that is clear. I know my name is not Tuchel, not Conte, not Mourinho, but I am the manager of Manchester United. And so it will continue for the next 18 months, or until the board decides to change. I want to end with that,” he said, among other things.
Amorim has no plans to resign himself. It is not known whether the club’s board is seriously considering dismissing the Portuguese in the foreseeable future. United will play again next Wednesday. Then Burnley is the opponent at Old Trafford.
