Former FC Barcelona, PSG and Brazilian team player Dani Alves, who saw his conviction for rape overturned last March, has invested in a Portuguese 3rd division club, the club announced Thursday evening.
“In a moment that will remain marked in the history of the club, we formalize the arrival of Dani Alves as co-owner of the SAD (sporting limited company) of Sporting Clube Sao Joao de Ver,” wrote the club founded in 1929 in the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira (north), in a press release.
He hasn’t played in three years
According to the sports information site MaisFutebol, the 42-year-old Brazilian would have acquired 50% of the capital of this legal structure used by most Portuguese professional clubs, and must buy back the remaining 50% at the end of the current season. Still according to MaisFutebol, Dani Alves would consider putting his boots back on and playing for the next six months at Sao Joao de Ver.
The former Barça right-back has not played again since January 2023, when he was fired by Mexican club Pumas due to the affair which resulted in a first instance conviction for rape, which was later overturned.
Dani Alves was accused of having raped a young woman during the night of December 30 to 31, 2022 in the VIP zone of a nightclub in Barcelona, which he always denied, evoking in particular a consensual sexual relationship, after however changing his version several times. At the time of his conviction being overturned, Dani Alves was on parole after spending 14 months in prison.
