The Rio Football Federation (Ferj) released the detailed table for the first phase of the 2026 Carioca Championship. Fluminense will debut in the competition on January 14th (Wednesday), when they face Madureira, at 7pm. The location is not yet defined.
Next, Tricolor visits Boavista at Elcyr Resende, in Bacaxá, on the 17th (Saturday), at 6:30 pm, for the second round.
The 2026 edition of Carioca will have five dates less than the 2025 competition and will have a new format. The teams were divided into two groups of six teams and will face clubs from the other group in the first phase of the championship. Fluminense is in Group A, alongside Vasco, Volta Redonda, Sampaio Corrêa, Portuguesa and Bangu.
In the other group are Tricolor’s opponents in the Guanabara Cup: Flamengo, Botafogo, Madureira, Maricá, Boavista and Nova Iguaçu.
The top four in each group qualify for the quarterfinals, which will be played in a single game against opponents in the same group. The semi-finals will have round-trip matches and will be determined through a draw. The format of the final has changed compared to previous editions and will be played in just one match.
