The Airaines Tennis Club (Somme) is exploring new avenues for attract and retain a wider audience.
Saturday December 27, the club organized its entire first pickleball tournamenta booming discipline that is attracting more and more racket sports fans.
Twelve teams participated in this friendly doubles competition, played in a fast format of a set of 11 points with a 2-point difference, favoring the rhythm and accessibility of the game.
Between padel, badminton and table tennis
This tournament was supervised by Leo Duvalsports educator and pickleball referent within the club, and by Maxence Bouthemycivic service volunteer responsible for developing activities.
And the development is a real ambition for the Iron club. It is with this in mind that the practice of pickleball has been implemented since last summer. But actually, what is pickleball?
A racket sport originating in the United States, it combines elements of tennis, padel, badminton and table tennis.
We play with it a full racket and a light ball made of perforated plastic, on a pitch the size of a badminton court.
A club in tune with the times
The practice is done in singles or doubles, indoors and outdoors, which makes it extremely adaptable and friendly.
Arriving in France a few years ago, pickleball joined the French Tennis Federation in January 2024, but could be transferred to the French Badminton Federation.
With pickleball, the Airaines Tennis Club strengthens its offer and adapts to the times.
A new way to attract new “customers”, which is part of a long list of initiatives, from online court reservations to the tennis school, including the organization of festive events.
