Alex de Minaur has always been a hard worker. But it hasn’t been enough for the Australian to achieve a coup at Grand Slam level. And so the 26-year-old has (once again) made some adjustments in the off-season. Among other things, he hired a new fitness trainer with whom he worked intensively on his physical strength during preparation.
“At the end of the day I’m trying to get bigger and stronger and just keep improving,” de Minaur said before the start of the United Cup. “Over the years I’ve gained a bit of weight, which has definitely helped.” There is no substitute for hard work, which is why he will continue to do so.
No win against Alcaraz or Sinner yet
In particular, de Minaur has not yet found a concept against Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Of the 18 previous meetings with the two exceptional talents, he was unable to win a single one. The seventh in the world rankings lost five times against Alcaraz and 13 times against Sinner.
“I’ve played some very close matches against both of them over the years. You feel like you’re getting closer and closer,” said de Minaur. He has to find “new weapons” and take “more risks” in order to be successful against them. This way he could disturb Alcaraz and Sinner a little more.
