Lazio Rome coach Maurizio Sarri underwent heart surgery which went well, and is expected to return to duty quickly, the club announced in a statement.
“The operation, carried out by Professor Andrea Natale, an international pioneer with more than 30 years of experience in the treatment of this pathology, was a success,” we can read on its website.
Suffering from atrial fibrillation, a heart rhythm disorder, Maurizio Sarri, 66, was operated on at Tor Vergata hospital in Rome, said Lazio Rome, currently 8th in the Italian Championship. “The coach will regularly take over the management of the team in the coming days,” according to the same source.
Maurizio Sarri has been back at the helm of the Roman club since this summer, following the resignation of Marco Baroni. He had already managed Lazio between 2021 and March 2024, finishing in second place in Serie A in 2023. In addition to Lazio, Sarri notably coached Naples, his hometown, Chelsea with whom he won the Europa League in 2019, and Juventus Turin where he was crowned Italian champion in 2020.
