KV Mechelen has no home matches against low-flyers on the menu in its remaining programme. Maybe that’s a good thing, because those are not the posters that make them happy at Malinwa.
What should they think about it now? On paper, in the battle for a Play-off I ticket, it would be a bonus to get some viable cards in the final stretch of the competition. However, theory and reality are two different things. KVM has already played at home against OHL, La Louvière, Cercle and Dender: the teams from places 13 to 16 in the JPL.
The combination of those four matches only resulted in a 6 out of 12. KV Mechelen did not get further than a draw at home against Cercle and Dender (0-0 and 1-1). The striking thing is that the penultimate and last in the rankings were left behind after those matches with the feeling that they should actually have taken the full spoils.
Miras arranged the rescuer
Goalkeeper Miras saved the furniture in both instances. It is so ingrained in this KV to crawl back when it feels that the football is not running as smoothly as hoped, or especially when it takes the lead. “We already escaped the 1-1 in the first half. That realization only seems to really come after a goal has been conceded, because with a ball against the post and a disallowed goal, KV had indeed already been warned twice. They were only able to overwhelm the Wolves in the end, by going from 1-2 to 3-2.
KV Mechelen prefers the underdog
While Mechelen took the win against La Louvière in the same minute, they took the 1-1 against OHL in minute 95. The draw was also deserved for the people of Leuven. Give Mechelen matches in which it is the underdog. Or away matches, because they managed to beat Cercle and Dender away from home.
