Announced as almost complete, the file has suddenly become tense. FC Barcelona thought it had one of the most promising African nuggets, but a major obstacle slowed down the operation.
Considered a jewel of Al Ahly, Hamza Abdelkarim was expected to join Catalonia in the form of a loan with an option to buy, for an initial amount deemed reasonable by the Blaugrana leaders. A global operation which could ultimately reach several million euros.
But on the Egyptian side, the offer is not convincing. The president of Al Ahly considers the proposal insufficient and toughens the negotiations, despite Barça’s desire to move forward quickly. The discussions continue and January promises to be decisive: either Barça manages to resolve the situation, or this very promising avenue could slip through their fingers.
